Most people call us about installation because something died, not because they were planning an upgrade. That is fine, and it is worth knowing that the replacement you end up with is often better than what failed.
Pool equipment installation here covers pumps, heaters, filters and lights. We are a licensed pool equipment contractor and factory trained on Hayward, Pentair, Jandy and Zodiac, so the work is done to manufacturer spec and to code. That matters more than it sounds on anything involving gas or electrical, and it is what keeps a warranty valid.
Equipment in South Florida runs most of the year rather than four or five months, so it wears out faster than the manufacturer averages assume. The upside is that an efficient pump or heater pays back quicker here than almost anywhere else in the country, because it is running more hours to save you money on.
Pool Filter Installation
Cartridge, sand and DE.
The one thing worth getting right is size. An undersized filter runs at higher pressure, clogs faster and makes your pump work harder for the rest of its life. Plenty of pools around here were built with a filter matched to the cheapest option at the time rather than to the pool. We size it to your water volume and your actual flow rate, not to whatever came off the truck.
If you are choosing between types: cartridge is the easiest to live with and needs no backwashing, which also means it wastes no water. Sand is cheapest up front. DE filters the finest but is the most work.
Pool Heater Installation
Gas, electric and heat pumps.
For a pool in this climate, a heat pump is usually the right answer. It costs more to install and far less to run, and our winters never get cold enough to push it outside its efficient range, which is the thing that makes heat pumps a bad fit further north.
Gas earns its place on a spa. If you want to walk outside and be in hot water in twenty minutes, a heat pump will not do that and gas will. Plenty of setups here run a heat pump on the pool and gas on the spa for exactly that reason.
Variable Speed Pool Pump Installation
If your single speed pump dies, you are getting a variable speed one whether you planned to or not. Federal efficiency rules changed what can be sold for most inground pools, so this is not an upsell, it is the shelf.
The good news is that it is the one upgrade that actually pays for itself. A pump uses dramatically less power at half speed than at full, far more than the halving you would expect, so running longer and slower filters the same water for a fraction of the electricity. On a pool that runs most of the year, that difference is real money.
They are also much quieter, which people notice more than they expect if the pad sits near a bedroom window.
Pool Light Installation and LED Replacement
The question we get asked most about lights: no, we do not have to drain your pool. The fixture pulls out of its niche on enough cord to sit on the deck, and the work happens up there. People assume it is a major job and it usually is not.
If you still have an old incandescent light, replacing it with LED cuts the power draw to a fraction and the bulb lasts years instead of months. Color changing LEDs are the common upgrade now, and they are worth it if you use the pool in the evening.

What Installation Costs
Installation prices depend on the equipment, and equipment prices move, so we quote after we have looked at the pad rather than before. What we can tell you is what drives the number: the size of your pool, what is already there, whether the plumbing and electrical need reworking, and how much room there is to actually get at the equipment.
A straight swap onto existing plumbing is a different job from a pad that needs repiping, and you should be suspicious of anyone who quotes you the same for both without seeing it.
We will also tell you when not to replace something. If your pump has ten good years in it and only the capacitor has gone, we would rather fix it and come back in a decade.
